I love the Jewel like colours of Kingfishers, they are so exciting to paint and also a challenge. This Kingfisher has the smallest little fish in its mouth. After a photograph with permission from The Shropshire Birder.
In terms of my application of oil colour, I predominantly use a mixture of both Winsor & Newton Griffin Alkyd and Melanie Cambridge Oils. If a higher pigment is still required I use Michael Harding Oils. I apply between 3-7 layers of oil colour to my work dependent on complexity.
Based upon the photography of Jim the Shropshire Birder. All permission obtained.
This work has been produced on a raw linen triple clear primed 2cm deep canvas and therefore is ready to hang unframed.
