Anna Heslop

I have been on a very long creative journey. My first love was in design, specially fashion and costume. I am drawn to contrasts, whether it be colour, texture, form, or shape. These elements have always guided my creativity in many disciplines. I also take inspiration from artists such as Picasso and Henry Moore. Currently I am exploring a very personal journey combining these elements with a physical response to the medium of ceramics. I love to follow lines and shapes within the natural world but be guided with how the clay responds when I'm hand building. I have developed a series of forms, mostly vessels. These contrast in shape, texture, and colour. I have also enjoyed the challenge of keeping this aesthetic but reducing the sizes and made some jewellery pieces. I have always loved birds, the freedom they represent particularly speaks to me. I have also designed and produced a range of bird ornaments. These are stand alone pieces, but can be perched on top of other ceramic pieces in my collection.
