Barbara Whitbourn

As an artist based in Hampshire, England, my work is an exploration of the world through the lens of abstraction. Drawing inspiration from life and landscape, I use acrylic and mixed media to create dynamic compositions. My practice is rooted in capturing subtle textures and rhythms of life. Through a vibrant palette and layered techniques I use abstraction to allow the viewer to experience the subject through their own interpretation and emotional response. I often incorporate elements of texture, pattern, and materiality to enrich the visual dialogue and challenge perceptions. Having studied at Newlyn School of Art, my journey has been shaped by a desire to push the boundaries of traditional forms. My work is abstract, yet invites the viewer to interpret and reflect on their own experiences with the world around them. For me, art is a continuous conversation between the inner and outer worlds—between what I see it and how I feel. Each piece is a step toward capturing a fleeting moment in time, transformed into a visual narrative that invites personal interpretation and connection.
