Cabby Luxford
Ceramicist
My medium of choice - clay - underpins my love of challenges - aesthetically, technically and creatively. Ceramics offers such huge opportunities for exploration and diversity and is the perfect mode of expression for me. Having been in ceramics for about thirty years I have an eclectic style and embrace a wide variety of techniques, most notably alternative firing processes such as raku and Indian Smoke firing. I love the collaboration between myself and the elements, earth, air, fire and water resulting in unusual and often unexpected results that are always unique. I often combine my mudlarking finds (pieces of 'treasure' found on the foreshore) with my pieces elevating their lost, discarded status to a visual presence once more.
