Christine Layton

Cabinet maker

After being offered voluntary redundancy from an office job she had been doing for 30 years Christine decided to take the plunge and re-train as a cabinet maker. It was something she had been wanting to do for a number of years, but didn't expect to have the opportunity. She embarked on a 15 month training course with a well respected cabinet maker in Sussex and set up her own workshop in 2011. Her main passion is for making high end, bespoke furniture out of solid wood and veneers from sustainable sources all over the world. She makes beautiful, practical furniture and goes to a great deal of trouble to ensure her clients are given the furniture of their dreams which can be handed down through the generations. When not making furniture Christine makes small items which she then sells at craft fairs and through open studios. She puts the same level of care into the making of these smaller items as she does with her furniture.
