Ceramics
I am an independent artist and my studio is situated on the Berkshire/Surrey borders.
I studied 3D design specialising in ceramics at Middlesex University followed by a teaching career in Further Education.
Alongside my lecturing I have always continued to design, produce, develop and exhibit my ceramics.
My work has always been based on my observations of the changing harmonies and rhythms inherent in natural form. I record all the seasons of the year from the warmth and movement of early spring through to the dying withered forms of winter.
Initially my pieces were quite formal and structured then developed into a more fluid response. At the moment I am experimenting with the inter-relationships between a collection of pieces weighing up the dynamics they create. This development seems to have resulted in more delicate forms that I hand build and then pierce so light can filter through the forms and create their own patterns.
I have always exhibited my work in various galleries throughout the UK primarily ‘garden galleries’ as my work tends towards the outside environment. Perhaps because of their origins.
My intention has always been to ensure that my created pieces enrich their surroundings with elegance and interest and not to dominate. A space is always improved by a focal point.
