After several years as an actress, Elizabeth Calthorpe married and started painting. Her first London exhibition was in 1992 and her work has been exhibited by the Society of Wildlife Artists and Women Artists and in galleries around the UK. She is a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists. Originally working in oils, she now uses mixed media, gouache and pen and wash. She loves painting most subjects - animals, land and seascapes, beach scenes, still life - and sketches the pupils rehearsing at the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music. "I respond instinctively to Nature - its life and movement, mood atmosphere and colour. I find it an exciting and inspirational challenge which I try to capture in a literal or more imaginative way."
