Gill Lawson
Sculptor
My father was a stonemason but I didn't start carving in stone until much later when I started by attending a course at Bishop Otter college. I then worked with a local stonemason who was a great teacher. I like the strong clean lines that can be achieved in stone - I work mainly in Portland and Caen limestone - the stones that have built out cathedrals. My pieces tend to be semi abstract, simplified heads, human and animal, and are used as focal points indoors, or can be outdoors where the stone will weather. Commissions are welcomed.
