Jane Hawkins
Painter
My work is unashamedly autobiographical, exploring boundaries and notions of containment. Through rich colour and evocative composition my work has a landscape bias with concern for light, colour, scale and mood. Layers of paint are overlaid, scratched back to reveal marks and symbols that hint at buried evidence
I trained at The Medway Art College,Kent and initially worked alongside designers and architects producing large scale artworks in clubs, restaurants and offices. I taught drawing at the British Museum in London before becoming Head of Art at Belmont Preparatory School. I am currently teaching part-time at an artists led studio in Reigate to all age groups, in a variety of disciplines.
I have been included in a number of group exhibitions and had five solo shows across the UK, Ireland, Barcelona and Germany. My work is also held in private collections in New York, Miami, India and the Caymen Islands.
