Jojo’s response to our busy hectic lives is to create ceramic works that exude a sense of calm and quiet. Her consciously pared back Porcelain and Stoneware forms are either made by hand or more often thrown on the wheel. Her work is heavily influenced by the forms and patterns found in the natural world. Her careful consideration of materials used and form, encourage closer inspection and invite the user to cradle the piece in their hands, allowing an intimate connection with the clay. She often uses foliage from her garden to create imprints on the surface of her work and uses oxides to highlight the pattern left. Recent work sees the addition of texture to her uncomplicated forms, bringing to mind, perhaps, a rugged mountainous skyline or crashing waves.
