Kate Kennard

Meet Kate. I am a contemporary artist working with mixed media, acrylic, and abstraction. I’m drawn to mixed media because you can switch from one medium to another as each layer transforms the piece. Inspired by nature that surrounds us is an infinite source of wonder and beauty to me, finding inspiration in the tiniest details of nature - a drop of rain water, a falling autumn leaf- a speck of white in a blue sky .....art for me – like nature itself – is a source of hope and inspiration. By bringing this in my art, I don’t look for logic; instead - I look for rhythm. Carefully structured sequences, I live for the drama of the moment that reveals itself like the crashing foamy waves of the ocean. I don’t choose my subjects as much as they seem to choose me. It may be a place I visited. It may be a photograph I’ve seen that captured a moment, an expression or a feeling that conveys some deep connection and truth to me. Most days you can find me making a mess in the studio, mixing acrylic paint with pouring medium or layering a canvas with thick brush strokes, or just moving on works in progress, or adding finishing touches to the next piece that will hit the shop.
