Textile Art  |  Visit Open Studio

I make textile art pieces for the wall – both framed and free-hanging. I love to stitch and find the movement of needle and thread through fabric an absorbing occupation. I enjoy creating rich, textured and subtly coloured surfaces using dyed and painted fabric, paper and chiffons. Patterns, natural and manmade, are frequent elements of my work. My most recent pieces have featured manipulated photographs, printed onto fabric and then stitched, beaded, folded, frayed or whatever takes my fancy. I have always enjoyed travelling and much of my work is themed on places I have been, where quick sketches and many photographs are absorbed until I feel ready to build my personal impression of the place. My current project is a body of work deriving from my recent extended travels in Italy - fantastic architecture and glorious warm colours! I have exhibited widely - both solo and in group shows with Kaleidoscope and with Modus Embroidered Textiles. I have had an annual solo themed show at the Fountain Gallery in East Molesey since 2005. I was shortlisted for the Baines Surrey Artist of the Year 2011.
