Lou Wilson

Lou grew up creating with anything she could get my hands on. The tactile nature of producing something with her hands simply fulfils her like nothing else does. She now works predominantly with pencil, watercolour and acrylics, but who knows what she might try next! Lou studied art at Kingston School of Art before going to Canterbury College of Art to study post graduate graphic design and illustration before spending 10 years working in graphics and illustration commercially. Lou then turned to freelance illustration and fine art replaced commercial graphics. She regularly sell through local exhibitions and online. Lou has also worked in sugarcraft, both teaching and creating unusual sugarcraft artworks for customers. She frequently draws from nature, but music, emotions and her surroundings profoundly affect her art. She also enjoys the technical demands of botanical and natural history painting. The accuracy and detail required, make it a thoroughly absorbing art form. As well as botanical art, Lou creates larger flower paintings, delving into the relationship between plants and the environment and atmosphere surrounding it. The wonders of nature combined with mood and imagination result in watercolour artworks with depth and emotion. Lou's abstract paintings, usually painted with acrylics, explore all sorts of inspired imagery combined with music. Music can connect with memories and strong emotions and Louise uses this to create unusual dramatic and evocative paintings. She describes how these paintings can surprise and delight her in the ways they develop "it's like I’m letting the painting paint itself. It is a very powerful feeling that totally absorbs me".
