Matilda Hulbert

I love to travel and am inspired by the places I visit, notably various locations in Italy and Austria. My love of walking allows me to spend much time in exciting locations to truly get a feeling for the place so I can become inspired by and channel through my work. Every piece I produce is a “Certificate of presence”. These act as proof of my experiences, memories and emotions associated with a moment. Working abstractly, I respond to the everchanging landscapes I see, aiming to convey the memories to the viewer. The addition of texture is a valuable component in my work since I love to add sculptural elements and layer up thick brush marks or smears of pallet knife work as a means of expression. Furthermore, my vibrant colour choice and the large scale of many pieces intend to be eye-catching and compelling, generating a powerful and positive mood within the piece.
