It was a desire to become more immersed in the great outdoors wherever in the world I found myself that prompted me to paint. Born in Liverpool with its rich heritage of art, culture and the sea on my door step I was fascinated by light, water and sunsets and intrigued by the great works of the likes of Turner and Monet. The contemporary landscapes of James Naughton are a more recent inspiration. I’m particularly interested in capturing the play of light and its effect on colour and atmosphere, equally fascinated by reflection on still water or dramatic storms at sea. I work from my studio at home near Leith Hill in the Surrey Hills which provides endless vistas and gorgeous sunsets. I mainly work with acrylics but have recently enjoyed the subtle blending of oils and translating the same dramatic moods of landscapes into still life.
