Painter  |  Visit Open Studio

I graduated in 1988 with a BA (hon) in fashion textiles at Leicester Polytechnic. Since then I have worked full time as an artist. Working in interior design companies, freelance painting, exhibiting in galleries and taking part in art fairs. I now work from my studio in Guildford. The aim of my work is to create paintings charged with energy, movements and emotions. My inspiration is drawn from the ever-changing land, sky and seascapes of the North Downs, Isle of Wight, South Wales, Lake District and wherever I find myself. I use a vibrant palette balanced with a mellow softness. I start with sketches, photographs and experiences then progress with colour, layering, exploring mainly in acrylics, keeping it loose and spontaneous. Using brushes and palette knife. When I am out and about sketching my work is more literal, on returning to the studio it takes on a different form and becomes far more abstract and spontaneous.
