Mini Printing Course – Session 3

June 18th @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

£40.00

Try out 2 different printing techniques – learn how to combine block printing and etching over 5 afternoon sessions. Materials will be provided for you and all ability is welcome although the course would be best suited to 12 year olds and over as we will be using carving tools. The studio is well equipped but small and there is only space for 4 so please book in advance!
1.Create a block print using adigraf.
You will be shown different examples of patterns which you can work from. Transfer your design/pattern onto the adigraf and then begin to carve the design. Learn how to use the tools, rollers and oil based inks. Produce a sheet of simple repeating designs on coloured tissue. (This sheet will eventually become a part of your printed final piece.)
2. Produce a still life drawing from observation.
Work directly from observation , applying symmetry and tonal contrasts to your still life. Crockery, fruit and flowers will be chosen and then arranged into a simple but effective composition. Viewpoints will be considered as well as attention to proportions and accuracy with your drawing.
3. Produce an etching/dry point.
Transfer your still life drawing onto a renlon plastic sheet using an etching point. Cross-hatching can be used to create shaded areas. Learn how to ink up your plate and how to use hard and soft scrim to manipulate the inked surface. Understand the process of wetting and blotting the paper before using the printing press. Create several prints to allow for experimentation.
4. Combine block printed tissue with etching.
Finally use the block printed tissue sheets in combination with the etchings. Select which part of your still life image should have a repeated pattern . Combine your pieces of printwork imaginatively!
