My passion for jewellery started at a young age when I bought my first ‘diamond’ ring from Woolworths with my very own pocket money. Some years later I found myself studying a masters degree in jewellery making at the royal college of Art, and after graduating set up a workshop in the converted coal cellar of my home in Surrey. I exhibited widely and undertook a variety of private commissions and at this time started teaching in adult education, igniting a lifetime’s enthusiasm for teaching, which continues to this day.
Over the years I have had a number of jobs including curating exhibitions for the Grace Barrand Design Centre in Surrey. Five years ago I realised a long time ambition to create a purpose-built jewellery studio, fully equipped with enough bench space for up to six students, enabling me to once again concentrate on my own work and also offer personalised tuition and classes for anyone interesting in learning jewellery and silversmithing skills.
I now work with ‘free cut’ diamonds and specialise in up-cycling gold to create new and exciting designs. On a recent trip to India I sourced some beautiful, champagne diamonds, and this inspired me to create a new range of jewellery, which I launched at my Open Studio this Spring.
