I like to make ceramics that can be used and enjoyed everyday, and use both earthenware and stoneware clays. Earthenware pieces are organic in feel - beakers are squeezed gently, platters have rolling, undulating rims, and are decorated in coloured slips and a clear glaze. They have a warm and vibrant tactile feel.
In stoneware I make both functional and one-off pieces. I have a range of mugs and bowls made with a flecked body and blue and white glazes. I keep the decoration simple to allow the lovely, natural patterns in the clay body space to breathe.
