My inspiration comes from my favourite places: the sea shores of Orkney and Devon, where I am captivated by the way in which plants manage to flourish in amongst boulders. I am fascinated by nature and the patination of surfaces which evolve over time, like lichen on a stone or rust on a gate.
This obsession has lead to a range of pebble planters and totems made from stoneware crank. Where I can explore the contrasting textures of the clay by smoothing the surface, or cutting into it to reveal the gritty texture, the addition of oxides and dry glazes complete the effect.
