Jennifer Jokhoo BFA, Dip.tchg

Painter/printmaker

Jennifer Jokhoo is a Surrey based Artist/printmaker.
She is primarily interested in Architectural structures; the development of construction and the transitional phases of the built environment over a period of time.

She is especially interested in the recurring geometry, patterns, the effects of colour, light and textures of building materials. Jennifer spent 2 years documenting the development of the 'Shard' and more recently she has documented the changes in Southbankâ??s skyline.

The physical transition of the cityscape is mimicked in the print processes I use. Lino cut printing has a very distinctive, graphic quality that lends itself beautifully to the varied marks, pattern and recurring geometry seen in Architectural subject matter.

The majority of my prints are created using Reduction lino printing: This is a method whereby a multi colour print is pulled from a single block. The lino is inked with the lightest colour and the first printing is made. The areas to remain that colour are then cut away. This is the process for each layer, therefore the process can not be rewound/repeated. As a result my editions are kept very small.

Picasso nicknamed Reduction lino cutting: â??The suicide methodâ?? hence its unforgiving nature!
