Julia Roberts-brown

Ceramicist

I take my inspiration from the natural world around me, the Surrey country side and the Cornish coast. Working in white stoneware, porcelain and red earthenware, I have a well equiped studio in my garden where I have potters wheels, a slab roller and kilns. I have been potting for 18 years and teach at Adult education in Guildford as well as being their technician where I run the pottery, firing all of the work and make the glazes.

Fused Glass, Textiles, Painting

I'm passionate about art, nature & gardening . My work gives me the chance to combine all these loves. I create glass for home, garden, and to wear. I love the play of light on the glass, It's a lovely medium to work in. I also love to add texture to glass by using thinner glass to add layers and frit (crushed glass). I am inspired by our local landscapes, be it farmland, heath or woodlands, and my garden. The changing colours of the seasons are often a feature of my work. I am self taught and have really immersed myself in creating fused glass over the past few years.
