Maria Billington
Metalsmith
My material of choice is mild steel, but I also work in both copper and aluminium. My aim is to show the beauty of steel by making a collection of objects using a variety of techniques - forging, hammering, forming, etching, repousse, polishing and heat colouring. I make clocks, bowls, tabletop and garden sculptures, wall pieces and some jewellery. Through my work I am trying to show that steel can be used to produce objects that are both beautiful and delicate. My inspiration for my work comes from both the natural and urban landscape.
