Tuesday 4th June
10:30am - 4:30pm
Experience the fun and excitement of Raku. Using glazes and a Raku kiln, you will be able to take your unique pieces of pottery, glazed and fired within a few hours, home. You will be able to select up to three pieces of bisque fired pottery, and glaze and fire them in the raku kiln. Then the magic begins, the piece is taken from the kiln while still glowing red and placed in an airtight container. Combustible material will be used to cover the piece, after which the lid is placed on top and then left for reduction. After removing your work from the container you will scrub clean the carbon, to reveal the finished piece. It is impossible to predict what the finished surface quality will be. Your pieces may be turquoise with a copper flash, white with crackle, and any parts of the piece unglazed will be black carbon or any combination thereof. According to Japanese folklore a Raku piece that has been given as a gift is very lucky for the owner and should never be given away. Unsuitable for under 16 years.
Book early, 6 places. Bring an apron or wear old clothes.
