Abilu Creations – Abi Bruford

My fascination with folklore and my Devon roots, steeped in magical history, are the foundation of my artistic journey. Through my work, I explore the spiritual meanings of botanicals, the phases of the moon, and the symbolism of skulls, reflecting the fragility and beauty of life. Using high-quality plaster, I create intricate bas-relief impressions inspired by nature, crafting unique botanical designs. My collection also includes ceramic ornaments, printers tray wall art, and jewellery, offering something for everyone, from the pure botanist to the untamed wild child.
Having recently acquired a kiln, I am now expanding into ceramics, adding a new dimension to my creative practice while continuing to honor the timeless themes that inspire me.
I began my creative career in 2006 at Camden Lock Market, where I spent eight years showcasing upcycled jewellery crafted from found objects. My designs gained international recognition, with pieces stocked at Selfridges, Debenhams, and other retailers. While my jewellery-making is now focused on one-off designs, I am excited to incorporate ceramic jewellery into my collections, blending my love for fine craftsmanship with the organic beauty of natural forms.
As a trained art teacher with over 20 years of experience, I have always embraced mixed media and experimentation. During lockdown, while teaching art online, I began creating abstract oil paintings, guided by my love for colour, texture, and spontaneous expression. More recently, I’ve started crafting my own canvases from vintage embroidered tablecloths, weaving stories of the past into my artwork.
My work spans high-quality plaster bas-relief impressions, ceramic ornaments, wall art, and jewellery, each piece infused with symbolism and meaning. From the spiritual connections of botanicals and the moon to the evocative textures of abstract painting, my studio showcases a dynamic blend of fine art and craftsmanship.
Whether you’re drawn to the natural world’s delicate intricacies or the rich history of folklore, my creations invite you to discover the beauty and fragility of life in all its forms.
