Ginger Cactus Art (GCA) is a group of diverse artists established through a collective spirit to showcase and exhibit the unique art that is emerging at this time.
Ginger  Cactus Art  is the brainchild of one of its members, Alison G Saunders.  Established in 2020 to promote the work of  it’s 30 founding artists.  This year 4 of the members will be showing their work at Surrey Artists Open Studios together.
Each artist has a unique voice and individual approach to their art practice, so there will be plenty of variety to experience at this studio.

Alison G Saunders
Alison’s artwork is primarily in printmaking, painting and journal making, using each to inform the other. Colour and circles are the driving force behind the art she makes, and she loves to challenge herself, finding new ways to make art.

She enjoys taking on all sorts of projects for a variety of clients both public and private and uses different techniques and subject matter in order to meet each client’s needs.  Alison also enjoys teaching, having students from aged four to adults and everything in between.

Stephanie Thompson
Stephanie’s paintings are inspired by the beauty of the landscape. She gathers sketches in all weather and writes about her feelings and observations of the places she visits, and then use these findings back in her studio.  Stephanie is inspired by the colours, shapes, gestures, textures, and sounds in nature, and its ability to mirror human emotions.  Working on a series of paintings at the same time, and using both classical and contemporary techniques, she creates her work in oils and mixed media, developing layers and marks and using structure and intuition to respond to her evolving work, to form images which express her  experiences.

Frances Jordan
Frances trained at Central St Martins London and obtained a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art she now exhibits in galleries and group shows across the UK.
She has a passion for the natural world and find inspiration for her work from the forces of nature.
She is currently working on a series of paintings that encompass the elements. The notion of elemental landscapes that are abstract in their very subject matter, earth, fire and water, give her the materials and freedom to explore.
Working in oils and mixed media, she layers her work using a limited palette. Using tone and texture, she likes to create strong, powerful images that depict nature at its most sublime.

Gwynne Penny
Working across multiple visual media including paint, assemblage sculpture, printmaking, digital photography and digital art enables Gwynne to explore and document her response to the world that she inhabits.  Her work is often imbibed with a strong sense of place, and she is equally at home working abstractly or realistically.
Gwynne is particularly drawn to the sea, inspired by the shoreline and the light in St Ives Bay in Cornwall.  She enjoys working in her home studio but loves taking a pop-up studio with her wherever she goes which can be as little as a pen and sketchbook or the contents of a small brown suitcase taken onto the beach with a painting kit or sculpture kit inside.
At Open studios Gwynne will be showing paintings and sculpture and working on one or two new pieces.
