A trio of two painters and a ceramicist who work instinctively and are inspired by the landscape They use a rich colour palette and create artworks that enrich and enhance interior spaces.  Having all exhibited their work previously as duos, they have joined together for Surrey Artists Open Studios 2025 to show their work in Alison’s garden studio as part of The Hindhead Art Trail. Alison was shortlisted last year for Surrey Artist of the Year.

Alison is a contemporary artist based on the Surrey/Hampshire border, creating abstract landscape paintings inspired by nature. In her garden studio, she uses fluid materials and layers of acrylics and inks to capture fleeting memories of place. Working instinctively from memories and photographs, her art invites viewers to form personal connections rather than representing specific locations.

Nicola works in her garden studio in the South Downs and creates stoneware vessels as canvases for abstract, aerial-inspired images. Her signature “Earth Bowls” are made using a pouring technique that produces patterns resembling the Earth’s surface. The kiln’s alchemy results in unique glazes that evoke seascapes and landscapes, reflecting her awareness of the Earth’s fragility and beauty.

Rachel’s artwork is varied and instinctive. Working with oils she draws on photographs, sketches and memories based on her time in nature and the impact of seasons and world events on her daily life and mental health. Time spent in silent contemplation outside contrasts with reflective moments at her home painting altar. Working with flowers picked at dawn from her garden, she uses meditation, candles and the burning of sage to connect to her creative instincts.
