Claire Meharg is a contemporary fine artist with a Masters and Degree in Fine Art from the University of Plymouth and has also studied at Dartington College of Arts and Plymouth College of Art and Design. She has widely exhibited in various exhibitions including the Liverpool John Moores University, University of Chester, Liverpool Irish Festival, Peninsular Art Gallery University of Plymouth, the Plough Arts Centre, Great Torrington and Ariel Gallery, Totnes, Devon.  She has exhibited at the Espacio, Vyner Street and Stoneplace Galleries in London.

She begins with phone images,  appropriated images or media to capture closely observed scenes in urban and natural landscapes. Using digital manipulation she deconstructs the images breaking down colour, form, emotions and connections. They are collaged, filtered and constantly reworked and layered resulting in an ’emerging invisible’.  Her work also highlights a  wide resurgence in painting and 2D work and an appreciation of the power of contemporary painting.

’I am interested in the formal act of painting, rather than a narrative and a connection with the viewer through line, form and colour.  My practice originates from thought associations with specific places and environments and from a cognitive ‘map’ formed during the early stages of a connection with a physical site, place or situation.  I am not always concerned with reproducing an ‘obvious visible’ ‘but an emerging invisible’ that comes from the act of painting and drawing, and the dialogue that develops between the paint and painter.  The work is not a representation of a literal object or subject, but a series of observations and thoughts that become the work.’
