Janina Klein and Maggie Read
I love to use a variety of mediums including acrylic inks, watercolour, metal leaf, acrylic paint, pastels and textured gesso which are drawn and painted to create loose and often vibrant paintings with an impressionistic result. Landscape, seascapes, still life and nature are favourite subjects but I have a particular fondness for the trees which surround me and never fail to inspire. I am an exhibiting member of Guildford Art Society and Woking and Pirbright Art Clubs and have exhibited with the Society of British Artists at the Mall Gallery, London.
My work is mainly mixed-media and I particularly like watercolour with
pastel or charcoal added. I also use acrylic paints and inks together,
working on clayboard or gessoboard. I use soft pastel for portraits and
still-life. I always try to combine an element of realistic drawing with
an impressionistic background – drawing is the basis for all my work as
a painter. I exhibit with Pirbright Art Club (I am the founder and
tutor); Guildford Art Society and Village Artists. I also run classes,
workshops and ’plein air’ painting courses and I demonstrate to art groups. https://www.maggieread.co.uk
