Joanna Lloyd Glass
After leaving London and careers in environmental design and as an elite rower (got too old for that), I grabbed the opportunity to be more creative and returned to university to study glass making part time at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. After gaining a First Class degree I went on to do the Masters degree course and graduated finally in 2015. I was lucky enough to be selected for the prestigious ”Rising Stars” exhibitions of 2015 & 2016. This is a national annually selected showcase of new craft & design talent in the UK. My work is sold in galleries across the country and at craft fairs and in online galleries such as Handmade in Britain.
I specialise in casting glass, this involves complex and lengthy moulding processes and a lot of cold working of the glass to achieve a high finish. I mainly use glass billet (chunks of glass) rather than sheet glass. Much of my work is inspired by nature, by archaeology and the traces we leave behind as a narrative. I use nature itself to take detailed casts and recreate the textures in glass making decorative and functional work.
I also create mixed media works with linocut, woodcut & found objects.
I am a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, the Just Glass group of glass artists, the Contemporary Glass Society and the Crafts Council Makers Directory. I also have a licence to mudlark on the tidal Thames.
Work for sale includes hand painted cards at £4.00, and Glass from £10.00 to £3,000.00. Card payments are accepted.
