Kim Cody

My paintings are purely abstract in concept and have no intentional moral, idealogical or political meaning.  Inevitably all art reflects the time in which it is conceived.  The artist’s anxieties, aspirations, hopes and fears are embedded within the work.

In the past I have always painted in oils but recently the need to include more physical texture in my work has led me to use acrylics.  I work on paper, card and canvas and use sketch books and drawings to try out ideas.   I also make many studies and drawings out in the landscape.  Currently my work is concerned mainly with tonal and textural contrasts.  Layers and divisions are also of interest to me and form an essential part of the compositions.

I trained back in the ”60s and have drawn and painted all my life.  I worked as a handloom weaver for ten years which inspired a love of texture in my work.  I taught art and design for thirty five years and lived and worked in France for twelve years.  I have work in collections world wide but now I exhibit nearer home in London and the south of England.

I will be displaying paintings, sketches and drawings and will be working in the studio on all of my open days.  The studio is open to visitors all year round by appointment.
