Martin Tyler Pottery

I love expressing myself through modelling clay and working on the potter’s wheel. Each piece is hand-made, glazed and decorated, making it a unique piece of art. I make reduction-fired, wheel-thrown, modelled and press-moulded stoneware and porcelain. I make my glazes from natural materials including local clay and wood ash. Decoration makes use of paper resist, combing and sprigging and colour is often introduced through the use of clay slips. I have always drawn and painted and use sketchbooks filled over the years to develop ideas for form and decoration. I also make watercolour paintings which can be seen at the studio.
