Four contemporary artists uniting for the first time to showcase their unique visions of the natural world. A beautiful curation of distinctive artworks presented within a fabulous gallery, studio and garden setting.

ANNE:

Inspired by hills, dales and moors of Britain, Anne creates joyful, semi-abstract landscapes which are characterised by layers of gorgeous colours, expressive mark making and rich texture. Her mixed-media paintings explore identity, and belonging, linking her northern roots with her present life. Her work blends playful imagination with a deeper reflection on our relationship with the natural world.

Initial sketches are developed using layered acrylic paint, glazes, pastels, oil sticks, ink, and collage to create tactile surfaces that evoke weathered rocks distant hills and uplifting, lyrical scenes full of movement and energy. Small houses, angular trees, and stone walls often appear, adding a narrative quality that captures both memory and place.

DEBBIE:

Debbie creates abstract artworks using watercolour and acrylic inks or oils and cold wax medium using the landscape as her source of inspiration. Within her range of work, she enjoys developing textural layers and exciting marks within her pieces, but also enjoys creating fluid, ethereal images. Her work is an expression of experiences and observations, the relationship between nature and the individual. Debbie often uses materials gathered on her walks in the landscape. Recently she has begun exploring ways to incorporate natural inks and earth pigments into her work.

Her awareness of time and sustainability is explored in her textile pieces in which she uses earth pigments and soya binder on linen. Stitch is applied to the pieces which refer to the Celtic ogham tree alphabet and the concept of “thin spaces”.

NICCI:

Raised on a farm in South Australia, Nicci grew up surrounded by vast horizons, expansive skies, nature, and the full force of the elements. Her body of work spans digital design, works on paper, and metal sculpture. Her preferred medium is charcoal and mixed media, while her current focus on metal sculpture draws inspiration from the natural world.  Nicci finds the physicality of working with metal exhilarating and enjoyable especially the challenge of translating the delicate forms, textures, and patterns of nature into lasting sculptural works.

SUE:

Sue creates functional pieces inspired by organic forms in nature and art. Responding either to the natural grittiness of stoneware or the smooth silkiness of porcelain informs her approach, whether on the wheel or hand-building. Sue incorporates slips, engobes and oxides into her glaze work capturing textures and tones that evoke memories from nature and the built environment — from the rugged Australian coast of her childhood, the granite streets of her teens in Edinburgh or woodland walks and beachcombing in Southern England in more recent times.

At SoSu Studio, each piece is a celebration of the beauty of natural materials, inviting a tactile connection with everyday objects.
