Short Acre Studio
Short Acre Studio hosts an interesting and varied selection of paintings, sculpture and photography.
Barbara Whitbourn – painter
Barbara’s abstracted landscapes in acrylic, oil and mixed media are inspired by the wild and remote Scottish Highlands. Her work reflects an emotional response the natural erosion of the landscape and this shows through in her use of layers and texture.
Her figurative work uses metallics and metal leaf in a stylistic, contemporary approach.
Barbara Morton – Painter
When we moved into our first home, we found a box of oil paints in the loft. The box moved house with us many times. Eventually for a birthday present I was given a painting course at West Dean, which triggered a new and absorbing interest.
Many different subjects catch my attention, primarily landscapes, flowers, and abstracts. I enjoy experimenting with different styles, media and subjects. Often, I find a subject and study it with different media and from different approaches.
Since rediscovering painting, I have learnt the joy of working with different media and the pleasure that painting can give.
In addition, I enjoy exploring the use of colour and texture in making jewellery.
Colin Whitbourn – photographer
Colin has been taking photographs for donkey’s years, starting with a Kodak instamatic and lots of smelly chemicals. He is primarily a landscape photographer, looking for something a little different, while trying to capture the ever changing relationship between earth, sky and sea in all its forms.
