Stephanie Thompson

My paintings are inspired by the beauty of the landscape. I gather sketches in all weather and write about my feelings and observations of the places I visit, and then use these findings back in the studio. I’m inspired by the colours, shapes, gestures, textures and sounds in nature, and its ability to mirror our human emotions. Working on a series of paintings at the same time, and using both classical and contemporary techniques, I create my work in oils and mixed media. I develop layers and marks and use structure and intuition to respond to my evolving work, to form images which express my experiences.
