Julie Matthews

Working in acrylics, I love painting animals and birds, which are often (but not always) brightly coloured and a little bit quirky! I usually start by painting the eyes – somehow I feel the personality of the animal coming out when they are looking at me!  At my Open Studio, I’ll also have a few landscapes as well as cards and coasters from my animal paintings.  My paintings are on stretched, deep box, canvasses (ready to hang) as well as on canvas boards and paper. I was excited to be a finalist in last year’s Surrey Artist of the Year where I finished 4th, and my work proved very popular at the exhibition at the New Ashgate Gallery!
