Diana King

Painter

Diana was born & educated in Surrey and has remained close to her roots. She had a very varied working background starting in science research at Surrey University, then lecturing, moving on to developing a successful family clothing business. Only later did Diana pursue her real passion for art. With no formal art training her science research work came in handy giving her a fearless approach for experimentation in all mark making media. With an enquiring mind and a rebellious streak Diana firmly believes that all rules are made for breaking ! It was a long time before Diana was persuaded to exhibit her artwork. The response was such that she is now painting full time with regular group and solo exhibitions.Diana finds it a continual source of amazement and joy that something she has enjoyed painting so much also gives pleasure to others. Dianas constant challenge is to capture movement in its many forms – from human dancers in dance halls to fields of wild flowers dancing in the breeze, musicians playing their hearts out and angry heavy clouds thundering across the sky in a storm. Diana does not keep still nor does she expect her subjects to keep still .unfortunately since having a paralysing stroke followed by covid in2019 Diana is unable to move about to the same degree but has adapted her wheelchair to take an easel and canvas enabling en plein air painting as usual. Diana has had work selected & hung at the Mall Galleries in London . She was also voted in the top ten Surrey artists 2010 . In 2012 she was awarded a prize in the Bachuus Exhibition at Denbies Gallery. Dianas work can be found in many private and corporate collections.
