Toby Staunton

I am a self taught artist who is inspired by flowers and animals (both real and mythical) from Japanese art and Western tattoo traditions. I primarily work with acrylics and inks to create paintings that are designed to be bright and colourful. I like to work with handmade and high quality papers to give my work warmth and texture, and often present paintings in vintage or bespoke frames to give them a character all their own. Where vintage frames are used these often form part of the inspiration for my work and paintings are created to fit the space. This presents me with different challenges and inspirations with each new piece and helps to keep my work fresh. Where possible, I also like to combine my painting with other techniques such as paper marbling to create unique, one off designs. Currently, I sell my work at markets and through my own website.
