Painter

My work grows from time spent in nature, using colour, form, and texture to hold the feeling of a place rather than describe it. I work with acrylics and mixed media in a loose, responsive way, allowing chance and instinct to guide the process. I live among trees, and the wooded landscape around my home is my main source of inspiration. Daily walks, shifting light, changing seasons, and the spaces between branches continually feed into the work. The paintings are not literal landscapes but impressions of what it feels like to be within them—surrounded by light, movement, and layered textures. My process begins with walking and observing. I use photographs to isolate shapes and patterns, then build the paintings in layers, adding and scraping back paint so forms can emerge over time. Gestural marks suggest structure, while open areas allow light and space to breathe. Painting is a way of staying connected to the natural world—of bringing the experience of being outside into the studio and into the home. I have recently completed the Professional Landscape Programme at Newlyn School of Art.
