Alison Hunt and Nicola Martin

Alison & Nicola will be showing together again for Surrey Artist Open Studios from Alison’s garden studio on the Surrey Hampshire border with a new collection of work.

Both artists share a love of the natural world and are inspired by the colours, shapes and textures which they interpret in their pieces.  They bring together similar visual elements in their practice.

Nicola creates unique stoneware pottery pieces in her studio in The South Downs. Her signature ‘Earth Bowls’ evoke images of strata between land and sea.  No two pots of Nicola’s are ever truly the same, she works with glazes that are often bespoke and hand-mixed in the studio, and the connection with the natural world intensifies when a piece is glazed.

Alison records the landscape on her daily walks and journeys and uses black-and-white photographs and sketches to piece together new ideas looking at texture and form. Developing her painting she uses tones that are not of the landscape that bring a different perspective to her work, the final result taking on a more abstract quality.
