My work is anchored in the natural world, drawing inspiration from its textures and forms. With 14 years of painting experience and a background in printmaking since 1985, I reference imagination, drawings and photographs, to create textured surfaces on canvases and collagraph plates.
Paintings are colourful and joyful; often inspired by a swathe of flowers which look like brushstruokes in the landscape: or beautiful coast with wildflowers.
For the printmaking, the textures are achieved by incorporating found objects from the landscape or personal items of sentimental value.
In recent prints, viscosity printing techniques are used, which involve applying multiple inks to a single plate. A range of effects, from lighter to darker images, can be achieve by the application and removal of inks. Even within a series of prints from the same plate, each piece remains distinct and unique.
Overall, my deep connection to nature and innovative techniques create artworks that are both personal and expressive.
