Local artist, Beth Kirby’s studies in the life sciences have been a focus in her artistic medium. She enjoys capturing nature and the human form on both canvas and sculpture. Living in Surrey has given her the opportunity to capture the beautiful scenery in both impressionist and contemporary styles. Her media use is broad from oils to acrylics and sculpture. She started painting at age 12 in oils with traditional methods and has moved into more free and contemporary expression in recent years. Recent press in Country Life and Vantage Point focusing on her Conker Sculpture. Beth Kirby also curates exhibitions and is the curator for The Mill Gallery in Elstead.

Following years spent in design, advertising and media, David Dragon, who lives in Guildford, continues to draw inspiration from music, film, TV, literature, current events, social and family history. Much of his work is created as a series, linked by a common theme. David likes to work in a variety of styles and mediums, adding some spice to the working day.

Robyn Horsburgh trained in Italy and paints bold, vibrant, colourful floral paintings in acrylic along with mixed media landscapes and animal and bird paintings.  She has undertaken a wide range of commissions including large murals at Knebworth House and Sunningdale Golf Club.

Becca Clegg paints dramatic landscapes of views that inspire her: swathes of flowers, dramatic sea views, woodlands in Guildford where she walks with her family. Her paintings are uplifting. In 2017-18 Becca was commissioned to paint large work for Ward F14 at Frimley Park Hospital, to lift the spirits of the elderly. Her joyful acrylic paintings transport you away to beautiful places. She will be displaying some recent large and small coastal paintings of Porlock, Cornwall, local bluebell woods and the flower fields she is known for, all available to purchase. Becca will also be displaying and selling original collagraph prints, giclee prints of her landscapes, cards, cushions, and felted items.

Their mixed portfolio of work will be showcasing high value unique artwork and sculpture, plus smaller more affordable pieces, offering the chance of finding unique presents and gifts, in an interesting, rustic setting with food and refreshments on the premises. On the walls throughout Open Studios will be large and small original paintings and prints, together with impressive sculpture, and on the days we are open there will be plenty of smaller items such as prints and homewares for £20 – £30 & cards will be available – Fridays and Sundays some Thursdays and hopefully some Saturdays (Please see note under visiting information).

The gallery itself is open daily,  so the work on the walls, and sculpture, will be available to view every day, even on the days the artists are not there, in this picturesque gallery space. (if interested in any work on a day the Open Studio is ”closed” you will need to phone the artists, on the number given in the brochure or online, or tell a member of the Mill staff who will contact the artist/s on your behalf. If possible you will need to pop back to collect work once the studio is ”open” again at the weekend or after Open Studios has ended.

Visiting information
The Mill is a listed building with lots of interest to be seen including the working mill water wheel. The gallery itself is at the top of the building and has lots of character, as well as lovely views over the river. Unfortunately, like many listed buildings, there are quite a lot of steps and steps up to the gallery so sadly not suitable for some disabled visitors. PLEASE NOTE: We will aim to open on at least one Saturday HOWEVER the Mill has weddings on these days and if there are weddings the gallery will be closed. We have therfore not listed Saturday opening. We will update and add Saturdays in nearer the time once the Mill has said it is OK, so if you are hoping to visit on a Saturday check back on this website listing before visiting to see if we will be open. Safer, obviously, on a different day if possible.

Place to eat
The Mill itself provides light refreshments and meals throughout the duration of the opening hours of open studios.
