Jan gained her BA Hons from her local art school in Middlesborough and later her M.A in painting from Bath Spa University. Sandwiched in between was a career as a scenic artist at BBC TV Studios; a freelance in Film, Commercial productions and Museum Dioramas; a Court Artist for BBC providing sketches in court sessions, and an art college tutor for undergraduates in painting, drawing and interior design. In 2001 her first book was published by Guild of Master Craftsman ‘ Trompe L’oeil - techniques and projects’. Lots of projects from small to wall murals and templates Jan teaches a local Art Club in Richmond London and the student work inspired another book ‘Water Colour Class’ published by BLURB. Showing hundreds of paintings by her students over a period of one year. earlier this year ‘King Lear Arts’ commissioned her to provide selection and feedback for art entries submitted for selection. Her own practice is ongoing, developing a passion for digital drawing and painting , complementing and enriching her studio creativity, Jan has given digital drawing workshops at the V&A and Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Her paintings have been shown at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Discerning Eye Exhibition, among other shows, and her painting ‘ Arct-tic-toc ‘ has recently been purchased by the Black Gold Museum in Saudi Arabia. She paints from her studio in Richmond, absorbed by various subjects and themes often derived from history and archival photos and research. Her work includes canvas painting, watercolours, prints, and painted and embellished object d’art.
