Madeleine Dawson

Painter

Madeleine’s work is inspired by places that make her feel alive, where the power of nature can be felt in the elements around. She is drawn to the lines, colours and textures of the natural world, and the restorative force it offers us all. Her landscape inspired paintings regularly feature big skies, seascapes, majestic mountains and rolling hills. Whatever the subject matter, Madeleine’s work seeks to tell a story - sometimes one that reflects a particular memory, mood or location; other times, one of her imagination or emotions. Having completed a foundation course at Winchester School of Art in 2000, Madeleine’s life took a different direction for two decades before she rediscovered her passion for painting during the Covid-19 lockdowns. She now focuses on developing her creative practice by taking a playful and experimental approach. She leans towards impasto techniques, colour mixing on the canvas and relishing the texture created by her tools. Broad brushstrokes provide softness while thick palette knife layers and mark making bring energy to the scenes.
