Susannah Acland

I am a contemporary landscape artist working from my studio in Upper Farringdon, Hampshire. I enjoy the contrast of working in relatively precise detail in my pen and ink watercolours, with the greater freedom of expression that I allow myself when working in acrylic.  In this medium, my brushstrokes become more fluid and intuitive, creating a less detailed interpretation of the landscape. I enjoy combining instinctive mark making using a variety of conventional and non conventional tools, to create movement and spirit. I am inspired by the expansive skies and the wildness and unpredictability of the ocean and take regular trips down to Hayling Island and West Wittering to paint plein air before working on larger scale canvases back in the studio.
