Jill Spain – Christmas Pie Creations

Just when I feel I have tried a wide range of materials to make mosaics, something else catches my eye.  I have been using rope and it looks good, and someone recently suggested to me that lace can look good too; I soak it in coloured grout, shape it before I put it into place and I’m pleased with the result.  Next on the ’try-out’ list: shoelaces.  Some materials are only suitable for mosaics that will be displayed inside but at this year’s Christmas Open Studios, I will have plenty of outside pieces too: sparkly pieces to hang from trees, place on poles to catch the sun and larger pieces to hang on a garden wall or fence.

As it’s a Christmas event, I have penguins, robins, snowmen, Christmas trees and one or two reindeers, all with lots of sparkle.  There will also be some small hanging Christmas mosaic pieces for your inside tree.
