Philip Ryland

Philip has been a professional artist for twenty years and in that time his style may have developed, fluctuating between abstract and the figurative, but the basis of his work, using photographs from walks or trips away and working through ideas in his sketchbook, has remained largely the same.

His latest work draws inspiration from visits to Wisley and Kew Gardens as well as his own ever growing houseplant collection. His style is loose and painterly, working in thin washes with saturated colours in acrylic, pencil, and occasionally silverpoint.

Philip works in a purpose built studio in Farnham and is the Head of Art in a local prep school.
